02/02/2009 European Summer School On Social Economy

ESSE tries to fill an important gap in the list of courses currently offered to European students in economics and social studies.
The need to face new challenges in the markets, the opening of new markets due to the emerging needs of population, the increasing devolution of public services by the Public Administration, lead the sector of social enterprises to make a qualitative leap, acquiring more and more tools and skills from for-profit companies (such as more complex systems of governance, a more qualified management and financing instruments tailored to their needs), without losing the main general interest purpose and fostering the involvement of their stakeholders and the broader community.
In a full-immersion week, ESSE will bring together an interdisciplinary group of students and scholars engaged in the analysis of the Third Sector and the interplay between economic activity and society, discussing the above-listed topics from different points of view, with a comparison of the European experiences.
